Harlequin Gaze
Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming
A male harlequin duck at Yellowstone’s LeHardy Rapids gazes to the sky as if to ponder when it will be time for him to leave. Harlequins are a rare site in Yellowstone. They breed along the fast mountain streams for only a few weeks before migrating back to the Pacific coast with the males leaving first and the females following a short time later.
