Obsidian's Legacy
Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming
These three cubs known as (COYs) for cubs of the year are the offspring of Yellowstone’s sow grizzly Obsidian who was named after the creek and nearby cliff where she roams. Only days removed from their den site these little cubs were just beginning to explore their new world around them as they patiently waited for their mother to help them cross the creek. The survivability rate of COYs is around 50%, but thankfully all three of these cubs survived their first full year and made it through the winter which is a credit to their mother. These cubs are Obsidian’s legacy.
