Native Spirit
Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming
A bison stands amongst the sage in Yellowstone’s Lamar Valley. Bison are the most revered and sacred species to many indigenous tribes of North America. Referred to as buffalo, these creatures from the tall-grass prairies were relied upon by native cultures for thousands of years. These native tribes’ entire livelihoods centered around everything the buffalo provided from food to clothing, shelter, and every other material need. For many cultures they are seen both as a relative and a native spirit.
