Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming
The top of a spruce tree bends as some of its needles are shaken loose as a western red-tailed hawk attempts a tight landing with its outstretched wings and inch-long talons. The red-tailed hawk is the most polymorphic raptor in North America with three main “morphs” of different coloring which can be light, intermediate, and dark, and these three categories come with plumage variation as well.
